Glasgow celebrates 25 years of Doors Open Day. This hugely popular event first started in 1989 and has grown in strength and popularity year after year in part due to the generous support of Glasgow City Council, Historic Scotland, other sponsors and the army of volunteers who enthusiastically give of their time and expertise.
From its beginnings as a one day event, Glasgow Doors Open Day has grown into a full week-long celebration through ‘Glasgow’s Built Heritage Festival’. The festival showcases the very best of the city’s buildings, streets, parks, unique spaces and most importantly people!
Glasgow Doors Open Day is organised by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and is co-ordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust. Glasgow Doors Open Day is part of European Heritage Days alongside Scottish Archaeology Month, which are both supported by Historic Scotland.
Of course the event wouldn’t take place without the hundreds of local people and visitors who take part in Doors Open Day every year. Thank you for making this such a popular and special event and we hope to see you in many more Doors Open Day buildings in future!
